A MOTORCYCLIST has died after crashing into a barrier.

The 70-year-old was out on his bike yesterday afternoon with a group of riders when he hit a barrier on the A171 at Birk Brow, near Guisborough and suffered serious head injuries.

He was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, but he died later that day.

Cleveland Police are now appealing for any witnesses who saw the man riding his blue and silver Suzuki, and the group who were travelling from Whitby along the A171 and on to Birk Brow.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist sadly died after he was in a collision on the A171 at Birk Brow yesterday, Sunday, April 15.

"The 70-year-old had been out around the North-East and North Yorkshire on his blue and silver Suzuki with a group of riders and they had travelled from Whitby along the A171 and on to Birk Brow yesterday afternoon.

"At 4.45pm, just after the group had gone round the first bend, the victim collided with a barrier and he suffered serious head injuries.
