PLANS for ten bungalows and four apartments on the cleared site of a former sheltered housing complex were approved yesterday.

Livin's application to redevelop land once occupied by Dean Bank Grange, in Ferryhill, was approved by Durham County Council's area planning committee (south and west) .

The scheme will include ten two-bedroom bungalows and four apartments, aimed at over 55s, with two properties kept for affordable rent in perpetuity.

Jennifer Clement, of Hackworth Close, said neighbours have concerns about parking but welcome new bungalows.

She said: "We all agree there are two areas of great concern, parking bays on a bend where there are no paths where there have been several near misses with pedestrians.

"Parking is already an issue and limited for existing residents."

Planning officer Mark O'Sullivan said 12 new spaces will be created and an existing parking court will be marked to maximise use and improve manoeuvrability.

Cllr George Richardson said: "Parking isn't perfect but I don't think we can turn it down, two bed bungalows are as rare as hen's teeth."
