A CAMPAIGN has been launched to raise thousands of pounds needed to repair a popular walking route.
A steep, remote part of the path along Yorkshire’s highest peak, Whernside, has become severely eroded, with an estimated 100,000 people using it every year
As a result, the path, known as Bruntscar, is in desperate need of repair and £46,000 is needed to create a new 200m section of stone pitching.
Kate Hilditch, area manager for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA), said: “Our message is simple; if you love Yorkshire’s Three Peaks and walk on the paths, can you help look after them?
“You could give money, sponsor part of the project, donate a prize to the crowdfunding bit of the campaign which will kick off in July, or spread the word.”
The 12-month long ‘Pitch in for Whernside’ campaign is part of the British Mountaineering Council’s national fundraising effort to support projects in each of the UK’s 15 National Parks.
