A FAMILY spent 48 hours in the saddle to raise money for hospice care.

The McMullen family took on the challenge in aid of St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Durham.

Led by Kev, 50, from Ushaw Moor, and Carla, 23, from Lanchester, they were joined by other family members who took turns on a pair of spinning cycles in Tesco Extra, Dragonville.

Miss McMullen said: “The support was amazing. We raised around £1,000 before we even started and people were so generous. The hardest bit was probably staying awake and we had to buy pillows and cushions for the seats because sitting was so uncomfortable.”

She added: “St Cuthbert’s Hospice holds a special place in our families’ hearts after the wonderful care they provided to both our Nanny Mary and my Step Mum’s Mum Linda.

“We would like to give back as much as possible to the hospice so they can continue to provide care and help to families like they have ours over the years. The skill, passion and professionalism shown by the nurses and all other staff in the hospice is second to none.”

They are hoping to have raised more than £2,500.
