THE A66 Trans Pennine route has reopened this morning after being closed over the weekend due to bad weather, but one school has just confirmed it will be off today.

Highways England North East contractors were on the road between Brough and Bowes into the early hours of this morning to clear the carriageway.

The road was closed in both directions throughout the weekend because of heavy snowfall and strong winds, which kept blowing snow back onto the carriageway and making areas impassable to two-way traffic.

Durham County Council confirmed that Forest-of-Teesdale Primary School will be closed today as staff are unable to get into school due to drifting snow.
