LEGENDARY North-East folk band Skerne have reformed for a special charity concert tonight.

Led by John Burton, who was Tony Blair’s agent when he was MP for Sedgefield, the band will be playing an Irish-tinged set for St Patrick’s Day at Trimdon Community College in Trimdon Village.

Mr Burton, who once described himself as “the oldest swinger in town”, is lead singer of the folk group, named after the river which runs through Trimdon.

“We’ve retired more times than Frank Sinatra,” said Mr Burton. “We’ve dusted off the zimmer frames for another year to keep us going – we’ll probably pop off on the stage.”

Tickets are £10 with proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support, and are available on the door.

Skerne are on stage at 8pm.
