VOLUNTEERS from a County Durham women’s group have helped raise £700 for a cancer charity.
Soroptimist International Durham members Jan Turnbull and Vyvyenne Mack took part in a 12.5-mile stretch of a 7,000 mile Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care Bluebell Bus initiative.
The duo walked from the Millennium Bridge, in Gateshead, to Cullercoats, on North Tyneside, and raised the cash thanks to sponsorship from other members, family and friends.
Mrs Mack said: “Every family has in some way been touched by cancer. When we told people why we were walking they couldn’t wait to sponsor us. This was very moving and made us determined to complete the walk.”
