THE brightest mathematician in a school’s history has been invited to join a prestigious workshop for the best number crunchers in the country.
Aidan Sterling, a student at St Aidan’s Academy, Darlington, has been offered a coveted place at a week-long summer school organised by the UK Mathematics Trust.
The Year 10 student, who knew his 12 times tables in reception class and secured a Grade B maths GCSE in Year 7, is now on par with the best young mathematicians in the world.
Assistant principal and director of learning maths, David Spenceley, said: “His problem-solving skills are beyond amazing and I often look to him for reassurance when the class is tackling some of the more complex maths. I haven’t come across another North-East student being invited to the summer school.”
Mathematical genius Aidan said: “I am really pleased to be invited to the summer school.
"When I looked at what students did last year it looked really amazing and it will be great to be mixing with the best of the best.”
The summer schools are organised by the UK Mathematics Trust, a charity based at the University of Leeds.
