A LIFELONG tractor enthusiast has been appointed chairman of the Yorkshire Vintage Association (YVA).

Over the years, Kevin Watson, from Bishop Auckland has restored more than 20 vintage tractors and he currently owns 30 pre-1930 tractors including the 1922 Model T.

Mr Watson has served as a tractor steward for the YVA for five years and has taken over the chairman role from long-standing member Richard Sturdy.

He hopes to build upon the success of the association’s annual outdoor tractor and engine show, Tractor Fest, which takes place at Newby Hall, near Ripon, on June 9 and 10.

Mr Watson said: “While my job as a truck mechanic is something I really enjoy, volunteering for the YVA in my role as tractor steward has been my true passion. I’m honoured that my contributions have been recognised and appreciated, and that I can now take on a leading role in shaping the future of the YVA. My first milestone will be planning another successful Tractor Fest at Newby Hall which takes place this June which I hope it will be bigger and better than ever before.”

Founded more than 20 years ago, the YVA was set up to pool resources from four regional enthusiast groups; of the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club, the East Yorkshire group, The West Yorkshire Group and the Pennine Group. The club is run by a committee with members from the three groups with an aim to putting on shows for tractors, engines and other vehicles for enthusiasts and the public to enjoy.

Advanced tickets for Tractor Fest cost £12.25 adults and £9.25 for children, with youngsters under four going free. Visit newbyhall.com/events/tractor-fest-2018/ or call 01423-322583.
