A LORRY has collided with a railway bridge causing the suspension of train services and a headache for those behind the iconic loco Tornado.
The vehicle hit the bridge at Castleton Moor, near Whitby, North Yorkshire, on Monday afternoon and caused significant damage to the track.
The rail route will likely be closed until at least the end of Tuesday.
Network Rail said: "A road vehicle has collided with a bridge at Castleton Moor.

"Network Rail have assessed the bridge and due to the severity of the damage, trains are unable to run between Battersby and Whitby."
Alternative road transport is being provided for the cancelled services.
The damaged means the iconic Tornado loco cannot leave the North Yorkshire Moors Railway by track but it is hoped it can still make a gala in Bridgnorth this weekend.
A spokesperson from the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust said: "Although we are reluctant to move the locomotive by road, we do not want to let down the Severn Valley Railway and all those wishing to see Tornado this coming weekend.
"Therefore we are working hard to get Tornado moved to Bridgnorth before the start of the gala on Friday.
"An outline plan for road movement is in place and we shall provide an update as soon as plans are confirmed."
