ONE of Northallerton’s oldest and historic pubs, the Fleece Inn has closed. Owned by Enterprise Inns, the pub is built on the site of a 14th century Friary and was once visited by Charles Dickens during his travels north.

Enterprise Inns failed to respond to requests for a comment but it’s understood they are looking for another licensee for the pub which is advertised on its site at a rent of £15,000 a year.

They say:" The fleece is beautifully presented, this attractive and traditional building stands out from the crowd. The Fleece Inn is well-renowned for live music and entertainment, with sports also being a popular feature. There is excellent potential to increase trade and appeal to a wider audience through the development of an appropriate food offer, varied drinks and effective marketing.”

The company puts the potential turnover of the pub at £246,000 a year.
