STORIES about the experiences of the gay and transgender community in a bygone age will be discussed this weekend.
Members of LGBT History Project NE will be at Beamish Museum, in County Durham, telling the story of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender heritage across the region in the 1950s and 1960s.
In the 1950s front room in Ravensworth Terrace they, along with Beamish staff, will talk to visitors and also hope to collect memories from those decades.
Pride of Place celebrates places of LGBT heritage, ranging from the frontiers of Roman Britain to the gay pubs and clubs that remain important today.
Geraldine Straker, community participation officer, said: “We are working with a whole range of community groups across the region to find out more about everyday life in the North-East in the 1950s.
“The stories collected will help us to understand another aspect of the North-East and assist us in bringing even more history to life.”
