A TEAM of Northumbria University students hosting a charity boxing night are calling for sponsors.

The fundraiser supporting the Bradley Lowery Foundation will take place at Northumbria University’s Student Union domain room, on Wednesday, April 25.

Fighters from Newcastle and Northumbria University will take to the ring in an 11-match event hoping to fill the 500-seat venue.

The group organising the event is made up of six sport management students, Sean Maitland, Steven McCarthy, Matthew McAdam, Ben Moir, Benedict Esser and Matthias Kuehling.

Student Sean Maitland, from County Durham said: “As part of our course we were asked to create a fundraising event. We decided to set up a charity boxing match because it hadn’t been done before on the course.

“We have chosen to support the Bradley Lowery Foundation as it is such a prominent charity at the moment in the North East. We hope that our fundraising will go some way to help the children and families that suffer from Neuroblastoma across the region. It is such a worthy cause.”

The students are hoping to raise £5000 from the event with tickets selling at £10 per person.

The group are also urging the public to sponsor either team Newcastle or team Northumbria, with sponsorship prices ranging from £60 to £2800.
