AN annual charity event which sees thousands of rubber ducks floating along a river is set to return next month.
The popular duck race, organised by Durham University Charity Kommittee (DUCK) is being held on Saturday, March 10.
The event involved 10,000 rubber ducks being raced down the River Wear, in Durham city centre, to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and the university group’s local charities fund.
It starts from Elvet Bridge at 2pm and ducks cost £1 each.
The winner gets £400 while runners up prizes have been provided by local businesses including Pret a Manger and Adventure Valley.
At the end of the race, local firefighters will be on hand to fish the ducks out of the river to make sure the event is as environmentally friendly as possible.
The event will include other entertainment, including scavenger hunts, music and food.
The organising team sad: “DUCK Race is set to be a great event which brings university students, local families and communities together to enjoy the unique character of Durham”.
