A 16-YEAR-OLD boy was taken to hospital on Saturday after falling down the stairs at his home in Newton Aycliffe.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the town at about 12.15pm following reports the teenager had sustained head injuries during the fall.

The GNAAS helicopter landed on Kemble Green and rushed to the boy's aid.

However, the teenager's injuries were not as serious as first thought and he was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, by the North East Ambulance Service, accompanied by GNAAS air crew medics.

A spokesman for GNAAS said the boy was in a stable condition and his injuries were not life-threatening.

He said: "We were called at 12.15pm on Saturday to Newton Aycliffe.

"There was a 16-year-old male who had reportedly fallen down stairs and sustained a head injury.

"He was treated on scene and taken to James Cook University Hospital by road."
