A MEMORIAL poker tournament has seen thousands of pounds raised for a North-East children's hospice.
More than £6,500 will go to Zoe's Place Baby Hospice, in Middlesbrough, thanks to the annual John Law tournament held at the Grosvenor Casino Stockton.
For a third year, 100 poker players took part in the event, with casino regular Nathan Farnaby being crowned overall winner.
The tournament was founded as an ode to takeaway owner and skilled poker player, Cheung Tai "John" Law, who ran the Sun Lok Curry House in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough.
Garry Oldfield, Grosvenor Casino Stockton's general manager, said: "We are delighted to have raised so much money for this worthwhile cause, beating our 2016 total by over £1,000.
"Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice is a charity that is close to the hearts of the local community, which we have supported for four years, alongside Grosvenor’s partner charity, Carer’s Trust."
