A FAMILY have had to be rescued after being cut off by the tide on the North Yorkshire coast - in the second such incident in just a few days.

The Whitby and Ravenscar coastguard teams, along with Whitby's inshore lifeboat were called out at 2.48pm on Saturday after it was reported that two adults and an infant had been cut off by the tide at Robin Hood's Bay.

On arrival the coastguards started a search of the area and discovered the family were to the immediate north of the port, in an area known as Dungeon Hole.

The lifeboat was then used to bring the trapped trio back to the landing slipway. The three were unhurt and given some safety advice.

The incident came just two days after the same coastguard teams had to help two adults and two children who were cut off by the tide by nearby Boggle Hole.

"Thankfully this incident has ended well and the casualties had a means of contacting the coastguard at the first sign of difficulty," said a spokesman.

"However, in addition to a similar incident a few days ago. this reinforces the importance of checking tide times, access points and having the means to contact the coastguard if you get into difficulty.

"If you get into trouble or see someone else in difficulty at the coast call 999 and ask for the coastguard."
