A MULTI million pound action plan to boost over 45 miles of the North Yorkshire Coast is being recommended to councillors.

The Priority Projects Plan, aims to inject up to £6.5m in development of the area from Whitby to Scarborough particularly on tourist and community infrastructure. Scarborough Borough Council will be considering the plans this week. Director, Lisa Dixon says the projects will build on the area's success in the opening of a new Campus with Coventry University, a specialist skills training centre, and development of the coasts Alpamare Waterpark.

In a report to cabinet Mrs Dixon said: "This is a high level strategic document which sets out a long term view of the council's aspirations for the Borough."

Schemes outlined include include redevelopment of the former seafront Futurist Theatre site and The Sands leisure complex in the North Bay, together with sports developments for Whitby and other key projects including improvements to Peasholm Park, one of the coast's top tourist attractions, and upgrading of South Cliff Gardens at Scarborough.
