A TOWN centre fountain has been running green to raise awareness of sexual abuse and sexual violence.

Middlesbrough Council made the change to highlight the work of Arch North East, who give support to victims and survivors, during Sexual Violence Awareness Week.

Arch North East head of services Mel Metcalf said: “This awareness week puts sexual violence and abuse on the agenda, generates important conversations, dispels myths and stereotypes, and sends a very strong message to victims and survivors that they are not alone.

“Arch North East offer support through our therapy and advocacy services to anyone who’s been affected by sexual abuse or sexual violence.”

Alison Riley, Middlesbrough Council’s Operational Lead for Homelessness and Sexual Violence, said: “Sexual Violence Awareness Week is an important time for us to reach new audiences with critical information about how victims and survivors of sexual violence and abuse can access local services.

“The message of this week is ‘it’s not okay’ - that all forms of sexual abuse and sexual violence are unacceptable and victims should not have to tolerate it. We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Arch on a programme which helps change the lives of local victims and survivors.”
