FIREFIGHTERS were called to ensure a leaking petrol pump did not escalate into a more serious incident.
Fire engines from Northallerton attended the petrol station on the town's Darlington Road at around 5.30pm on Sunday night.
The crews isolated the tank supply and put a cordon in place before handing over to an emergency gas team.
The fire service said that prompt and effective action by garage staff with good emergency procedures prevented the gas cloud igniting.
