A SUSPECTED uninsured driver caused “significant damage” to a new police car in an attempt to ram his way out of a pursuit.
Officers from Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit (CDSOU) pursued the driver of a black Vauxhall Vectra on Friday morning in Hartlepool.
A CDSOU spokesman said: “When he was prevented from continuing in George Street due to other vehicles he attempted to ram his way out causing significant damage to one of our new police vehicles.
“Fortunately the officer wasn’t injured and the car will repair.”
The driver of the Vectra was arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance and several other driving offences.
He is due to appear in court at a later date.
