TONY PULIS has categorically ruled out spending any money on permanent signings during the current transfer window.

Adam Forshaw became the second Middlesbrough player to leave the club since the transfer window opened yesterday, completing a £4.5m move to Leeds United as he followed Connor Roberts through the exit door.

The new Boro boss freely admits he has inherited a squad that he believes is too big, and further players are set to depart in the next couple of weeks. Fabio da Silva will return to Brazil if an acceptable offer arrives, Lewis Baker is set to make an early return to his parent club, Chelsea, and bids will be considered for the likes of Ashley Fletcher, Patrick Bamford and Adam Clayton.

That will create an opportunity for Pulis to bring in a couple of signings of his own, but the new Boro boss is adamant it would be unfair to start asking for more money after Steve Gibson sanctioned around £50m worth of spending in the summer.

Pulis said: “I don’t want to spend any of Steve’s money this window. What Steve has done in the summer, and the way he’s backed the football club, is enough money to spend in one season. More than enough, in lots of respects.

“If we can get a few more out, then I might ask Steve for a couple of loans and see if we can push on with that and bring a couple in. But I feel I have a responsibility to the man to not just go in and say, ‘I want this’, ‘I want that’ and ‘I want everything else’.

“He’s been a very loyal chairman to his managers in the past in respect of all the money he’s spent at this football club. I just want to give him the grace of looking at the group before deciding what we should do to move on.”

Pulis has wished Forshaw all the best after the midfielder signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Elland Road, and claimed yesterday’s transfer developments were a good result for all involved.

He said: “I’ve spoken to Adam, although because he’s been injured, I haven’t actually had the chance to watch him train much.

“I’ve found him a really nice lad, but he needs to play football. He wanted to go and play football somewhere, and it’s a good deal for the club, and for the boy. We wish him all the best.”

A couple of Boro’s players have been suffering from flu this week, and have not been able to take part in every training session. However, Pulis is hopeful they will be fit enough to line up as part of the squad for tomorrow’s game at QPR.
