HALF of a pedigree flock of sheep worth around £4,500 have been stolen.

The owners of Waitwith Bank Farm, near Richmond, had 19 Swaledale ewes and one Swaledale tup stolen between December 30 and January 2.

They had put 40 ewes and a tup into Foxglove Covert, near Catterick Garrison, from their neighbouring land on Hipswell Moor.

The sheep were there on December 30, but when they went to feed them after lunchtime on January 2 they realised about half were missing.

After searching the moor for about three hours and asking their neighbour if he had seen anything they contacted North Yorkshire Police.

Owners Gill and Tom Farrow said they were “very disappointed”.

The ewes had a flock number of UK122322 while the tup had the number UK106027-04524 on an ear tag when he disappeared.

The ewes had a horn burn with the letters JP, with the J horizontal and the P upright, and a red loin mark, which the tup may also have had.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or the owners on 01748-823214.
