ROBBERS wearing clown masks snapped a man’s leg with a crowbar when they broke into his home.
Three intruders wearing white CSI-style suits were confronted by the man, who was alone in the house, and demanded keys to a safe.
There was a struggle and the man’s leg was broken with the metal bar during the terrifying ordeal at South View, Burnhope, near Stanley, at about 8pm on November 11.
The robbers fled the scene with sentimental gold jewellery. Police have launched an investigation to catch the burglars and a reward is being offered for information.
Detective Constable Michael Orridge of Chester-le-Street CID, said: “Following extensive enquiries, we are now appealing to the public to help us catch these culprits.
“This was a nasty assault which left the victim with a broken leg and needing hospital treatment.
“A £5,000 cash reward is being offered for information leading to a conviction.”
