A ROOFING design company in Stockton has completed work on a multi-million pound steelworks in the Middle East.

Tapered Plus recently completed work on the Al Taweelah Alumina Rolling Mill in Abu Dhabi.

The Fusion Hive-based business was part of a team of consultants working on the first alumina refinery in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is expected to be finished in 2018.

Aman Chahal is a director and co-founder of Tapered Plus which specialises in tapered insulation for flat roofs – creating designs and supplying materials.

He said: “The Al Taweelah project is a big milestone for Tapered Plus and we’re very proud of our involvement.

“The project was significant – one of the largest industrial construction sites in the UAE and only the second to be built in the Middle East.

“Taking Teesside expertise and technology overseas is a great feeling and we’re hoping this work will lead on to more in the region.”

Closer to home, Tapered Plus’ team of ten have been busy working on other high profile projects such as the Victoria Gate shopping centre in Leeds, the Feethams Leisure Scheme in Darlington and Arsenal Football Club’s training ground in Hertfordshire.

The stunning Victoria Gate design required Tapered Plus to create roofing to cover the 42,000 sq m of shopping space – and the firm’s work for Arsenal was delivered under budget.

The company has also worked with its Fusion Hive neighbours Sapere Software to build a specialist app for its customers.

He said: “Sapere built us a mobile and web-based app that helps our consultants to estimate when they’re out in the field.

“Our team is often in remote sites with no data connection and so this tool helps them gather and process the information on jobs.

“It’s fantastic to be able to work closely with other businesses on our doorstep.

“That’s just one of the benefits of being based in a place like Stockton, and particularly Fusion Hive.

“There is a wealth of expertise and skill to be drawn on across Teesside.”
