BURGLARS who snuck in through the roof of a commercial premises made off with only £20.

The break-in at a business on Aycliffe Business Park, in Newton Aycliffe, is believed to be connected with a string of burglaries in the area.

Inspector Sarah Honeyman, of Newton Aycliffe Police, has urged business-owners on the estate to step up security.

Suspects most recently struck this week at a business on Burtree Road.

Entry was forced into the building through the roof in the early hours of Monday morning.

The safe was targeted but only £20 was taken.

In November cash safes were targeted in three commercial premises where burglars gained entry through the roof.

Hundreds of pounds were stolen from the firms in the space of just four days.

And less than one month previously a safe containing £20,000 was stolen from T and S Bespoke Kitchens, on the industrial estate.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call Durham Police on non-emergency 101.
