A WOMAN has died after being struck by a car.
The 60-year-old was killed when a BMW hit her before colliding with a telegraph pole, smashing through a garden wall and hitting a house.
It happened on Bentinck Road in the West End of Newcastle at 5pm on Saturday afternoon.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A stretch of Bentinck Road was cordoned off for more than six hours while forensic teams carried out an investigation.
It is understood one person was “assisting with enquiries” at a police station.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At about 3pm police received a report of a single vehicle collision on Bentinck Road.
“Emergency services attended after a BMW collided with a pedestrian and hit a house.
“Sadly the pedestrian, a 60-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.”
