FESTIVE cheer has been spreading as schools in the region rallied to raise money for a North-East hospice.

Durham Trinity School, Durham Johnston and Belmont Cheveley Park Primary School and St Bede’s RVCA Primary School have all dressed in their Christmas best in aid of St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

Year seven and eight pupils at Durham Johnston took part in their annual Santa Fun Run event which sees over 200 pupils run a cross county style course whilst dressed in festive clothing.

Pupils at Durham Trinity School enjoyed fun festive themed activities indoors before heading out to complete a short Santa Fun Run in the school grounds.

Belmont Cheveley Park Primary pupils and staff held a Christmas Jumper Day where pupils in all year groups all dressed to impress in winter woollies.

Pupils from St Bede’s RVCA Primary School also held a Christmas Jumper Day.

The collective events have helped to raise over £1,300 for the Durham facility for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Helen Smurthwaite, community and events fundraiser at St Cuthbert’s Hospice said: “It’s absolutely wonderful to see so many pupils, and staff, dressed up to take part in an event in support of our hospice.

“The children really enjoy themselves and it’s a fun way to help us raise the vital funds needed to continue providing outstanding care at St Cuthbert’s.”
