PUPILS have proved their literary knowledge after becoming the most successful North-East team to compete in a national competition.

The four-strong team from Yarm School was made up of second year pupils, Matthew Anthony, Eve Kempster, Shrish Nair and Izzy Stone, who all worked together to win the region's round of the Kids’ Lit Quiz.

They qualified for the national final, where they finished fourth overall.

They were victorious over 34 other teams in the North-East heat of the competition and competed in the national final against 20 schools from across the country.

The Kids’ Lit Quiz sees competitors asked 100 questions on children’s literature.

Yarm School headmaster, David Dunn, said: “They have done brilliantly and we are extremely proud of what our students have achieved.

“This event not only stretches the competitors intellectually, but enriches their personal development by equipping them with life skills and increased confidence.

“This experience will stand them in good stead for when they embark on further studies or take a step on the career ladder.”
