Newcastle have now dropped 11 points in the Premier League from winning positions – more than any other club – after losing 3-2 at home to Leicester on Saturday evening. The Magpies are without a win in their last seven league games (1D 6L) but they have a great opportunity to get back to winning ways when old boss Sam Allardyce brings his Everton side to the North-East on Wednesday evening.

Everton hardly got a kick at Anfield in the 229th Merseyside Derby despite getting a point and this is a gilt-edged opportunity for Rafa Benitez and his side to get back to winning ways.

The hosts are 7/5, with the Toffees 23/10 and the draw at 11/5.

The Magpies have conceded 15 times in their last five games and will need to tighten up defensively but the Blues lack the pace and flair that Leicester had at St James’s Park and it won’t be lost on Benitez that Newcastle will be just a point below Everton with a win.

Dwight Gayle’s goal against the Foxes now means he has scored over a quarter (26) of Newcastle’s 101 league goals since the start of the 2016-17 season and the striker is 5/1 to open the scoring at BetVictor and 19/10 to find the back of the excellent Jordan Pickford’s net.

Everton will play a more expansive game than they did at Anfield and I would expect Ademola Lookman to start – Everton may score but the recommendation must be for a home win at 7/5 with a 3-1 scoreline the recommendation at 21/1.

Boro are 5/4 with BetVictor to finish the season in the top six – and a minimum of a play-off place - after their 2-0 home win against Ipswich and they are 13/10 to win at Millwall on Saturday and 5/1 to be promoted.

Sunderland got a cracking point at leaders Wolves at Molineux and they have Fulham as the visitors. The Black Cats are 6/4 with BetVictor to keep the points with the Whites 9/5 and the draw at 12/5.

Sunderland are 5/4 (from evens) to be playing in League One next term and 40/1 to end the campaign in the top half of the table – that must be the goal for Chris Coleman’s side in the second half of the season although they are 15 points in arrears of that, albeit with 75 points still to play for.
