PUPILS enjoyed a slice of cake to mark the 50th anniversary of their school building.

Ingleton CofE Primary School celebrated the landmark date last week with a cake made by school cook Elaine Santana.

Pupils and staff were joined by guests including former secretary of 23 years Pat Nattrass, who worked there when the building opened in 1967.

Headteacher Judith Pressley recalls the old school, which was demolished to make way for council housing, as a four-year-old pupil.

She said: "We kept the sundial and bell so we have a bit of the old school with us but this was a chance to celebrate this building and what it means to the village.

"It has always been at the heart of the community, it grows and changes with the times but throughout all the changes it remains a lovely, happy, family place and it is such a privilege to work here."
