A DISABLED boy is set to receive a new specialist bed with help from The Bradley Lowery Foundation.

Joshua Denton, of Middleton-in-Teesdale, was left brain damaged when he suffered an epileptic seizure aged just three.

Now eight, the Evergreen Primary School pupil, is unable to talk or walk properly.

Joshua lives with his parents Scott Denton and Joanna Hall and sister Mia, five, but was told he might have to sleep on the floor after the NHS said his specialist bed had become unsafe for him.

His parents were left with the daunting task of paying £10,000 for a new bed and have spent the last two years fundraising, raising almost £3,000.

But thanks to The Bradley Lowery Foundation, set up in memory of the six-year-old Sunderland football fan, a new bed is in sight.

Joshua is the first youngster to benefit from the Foundation, which was set up in Bradley’s memory to help buy equipment or medical treatment not available on the NHS.

Mr Denton said the whole family was grateful to the Foundation, which has agreed to match fund £5,000 to buy Joshua’s new bed when they hit their target.

They also hope to continue fundraising to turn Joshua’s bedroom into a sensory room, costing another £20,000.

Mr Denton said: “We asked for the bed and it was Gemma’s idea to do the full room.”

Head of communications and fundraising at The Bradley Lowery Foundation, Lynn Murphy, said: “When Joshua’s parents approached the foundation, we where more than willing to help, Joshua is such a loving little boy, and we connected with him and his family straight away.”

The Foundation have raised more than £2,000 to date after setting up an online donation page.

Ms Murphy added: “We had Joshua and his family in the SAFC box a couple of weeks ago too; Joshua loved every minute of it, seeing the children smile makes everything worthwhile.

“Again we can’t thank the members of the public enough, as it is all down to their kindness and generosity that allows us to carry out the good work Bradley did.’’
