TWO teenagers from a County Durham water polo team have won gold for England in a European-wide contest.
Ben Stephenson, 16, and John Pratt, 18, lifted the Under 21 EU Nations trophy after playing as part of the England 99's Men's quad.
The Sedgefield Water Polo Club members battled it out in the water during the tournament in Manchester in November.
Club secretary Vicky Alderson said: "This is an excellent achievement showing how hard work and commitment pay off. Sedgefield Water Polo Club are extremely proud of any members who gain England representation.
"Both players are currently training monthly with the born 99's England Men's squad and are hoping to be selected to represent Great Britain in the Under 19s European Qualification Tournament in May 2018."
The pair, Ben from Newton Aycliffe, and John from Coxhoe, train with the club at its base in Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.
