THE UK’s woodworking and joinery manufacturing industry has celebrated a Health and Safety Hero from the North-East at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Kevin Claughton has been praised for his commitment and achievements as a health and safety officer making £18,000 worth of saving for Stockton-based Cotswold Manufacturing.
Reviews into how hazardous waste was contained and stored saw Mr Claughton bring changes to the firm to create a safety culture for his colleagues.
His work has seen him clinch an award at the national British Woodworking Federation Awards to celebrate unsung heroes keeping employees safe.
Mr Claughton said: “I’m really humbled to have won – before I joined the committee I had very limited health and safety experience, so it feels I’ve come a long way.
"Last year I also completed a train the trainer course, so I could deliver training to others in the business.
"By the end of this month, I’ll have delivered training to 96 employees, including the company directors.”
