A NORTH-East city has been named as the UK’s drink and drug driving capital.
According to research by MoneySuperMarket, Sunderland had the highest rate of drink and driving convictions nationally.
Using its car insurance quotes over the last 12 months, it found that nearly three of every 1,000 drivers in the city had a conviction for drink or drug driving.
Nationally offences were up year-on-year.
The total rate of convictions has increased since 2016, rising from 1.39 to 1.68 per 1,000 for men and from 0.92 to 1.20 per 1,000 for women.
