I HAVE written many times to Hear All Sides and to Darlington Borough Council about the folly of the council’s proposal to move the library from its glorious building in Crown Street to a small area at the back of the Dolphin Centre and to split the other services at Crown Street to buildings yet to be determined.

At this late hour before the court case is heard in Leeds on November 28, I am making this final appeal directly to the leader of the council and the chief executive of Darlington Borough Council through your newspaper to walk away from the day in court and once again engage with the Friends of the Library to find ways and models which will ensure that the library and all its services are kept at Crown Street.

There are new library models and structures which are in existence which could work here in Darlington.

Enough time and taxpayers’ money has been wasted which could have been more productively used in meeting the Friends and coming up with a workable solution which would keep the library and its services at Crown Street.

To lose Crown Street library would be a grievous blow to the history and heritage of Darlington. Please reflect on that and step back from the court case.
