HOT on the heels of one major gig announcement, The Northern Echo Arena will now play host to a Bank Holiday pop-fest.

The Darlington venue has confirmed that Steps will be headlining the show next Spring.

The news comes on the same day that A-ha will be performing June 17 as part of their stadium tour next year.

Lee Rust, managing director of Darlington Mowden Park, said: "We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming further fantastic acts to Darlington on a very popular May bank holiday weekend. I’m certain that Steps and the incredible full line up of bands will be a memorable occasion for the town and region to enjoy.

"We’re equally pleased to again be working with Liz (Liz Hobbs) and her team following the success of UB40 last summer. UB40 had some excellent feedback from both attendees and the music industry. That success has allowed us to take the next steps in our process of bringing the Arena to life.

"Having just announced the 2018 a-ha concert earlier today it’s an incredibly exciting time and testament to an enormous amount of work that our staff and volunteers have put in behind the scenes over recent years.

"We have an ambition to bring an array artists to Darlington on an annual basis including world-class talent. The Club and Arena have come an incredibly long way and we are hoping to make further announcements soon."
