DESIGNERS and craftspeople from across the region will be showcasing their work at a special Christmas market this weekend.

The Designer Makers Christmas Market will be held at The Witham, in Barnard Castle, on Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19, from 10am until 4pm.

The event will showcase the work of thirty two artists and craftspeople, split over two floors, who will travel from as far as Perthshire and West Yorkshire.

Attendees will be able to buy handmade gifts while there will also be an upcycled theme and demonstrations to allow members of the public to have-a-go at various techniques.

Designer Makers Market was established in 2013 by textile artist Kathryn Guy.

She said: “This is the eight weekend of events we have held at this wonderful venue. It’s a fabulous place to showcase our work and we always attract customers who really appreciate the talents of those taking part and buy into the uniqueness of the products.

"They love to see how it’s made and purchase direct from the maker. Buying British and shopping local is definitely on the increase."

  • Admission to the event is free, but a small donation to St Teresa’s Hospice will be gratefully received.
  • To date the event’s door collections at the Witham have raised £2,074.25 for the hospice.
