TWO posties have raised almost £10,000 for charity after embarking on an adventure of a lifetime.
Victoria Abbott, from Crook, and Sarah Williams, from Escomb, near Bishop Auckland, completed a six-day trek along the Great Wall of China last month. The friends, who are both postwomen, raised £9,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that has supported members of their families in recent years.
As well as sponsorship, the pair staged fundraising events, such as band nights, quizzes and a weekly car boot sale. They also received support from local businesses, including Crook pubs The Mill and The Vault.
Ms Abbott, 39, said the trek had been tough but a fantastic experience, with amazing far-reaching views.
“We never expected to raise so much money so we are absolutely thrilled,” she said.
“We would like to thank everyone for their support.”
