A WOMAN who has raised thousands of pounds for charity after battling cancer has raised more than £2,500 by hosting a concert.

Christine Sewell, 69, from Sherburn Village, held the event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

She has been raising money for the charity after being diagnosed with cancer in 2012, just a year after suffering from a stroke.

She has now raised more than £11,500 through annual concerts, community events and raffles.

She held a concert at Sherburn Village Club in October, which featured music from Rob Slater’s 60 piece, the Choir that Rocks and Pittington Brass Band, and along with a raffle at the village Co-op, raised a total of £2,529.

The event also featured an appearance by Tony “The Roman” Jose.

She said: “Thank you everyone for your support.”
