A JOINT meeting has been called by an MP to help tackle anti-social behaviour and crime in the Trimdons.

Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson is appealing to the public and police to join forces to take action in their community.

The meeting comes following anti-social behaviour and crimes including arson that have blighted the area in recent years.

Mr Wilson said he hoped with the will of residents and officers, that a system could be put in place to stamp out the issue.

“There have been a lot of complaints around anti-social behaviour in the area, especially around arson,” said the politician. “I held a surgery before the general election and have had a series of meetings with local people and police officers and thought we would try a new way of getting them to work together.

“We need to garner confidence in the community but it’s not going to happen overnight.”

It is hoped a body will be formed of residents who are prepared to “go forward and help tackle the issues”.

“It’s based on mutual gain and we want to try it out here,” he added.

The meeting is primarily for the people of Trimdon Station and Trimdon Colliery but residents from across the Trimdons are welcome.

Mr Wilson, Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg, local police officers and representatives from Durham County Council will be in attendance at the meeting.

It will take place at 10am on Saturday at Trimdon Station Residents’ Association Community House, Deaf Hill.
