YOUNGSTERS have been arming themselves with safety know-how as part of county-wide initiative.

The annual County Durham and Darlington Children’s Safety Carousel launched today (Friday, November 3) and welcomed the first of more than 3,000 school pupils to gain useful skills to stay away from harm.

The multi-agency event, held at The Work Place, in Newton Aycliffe, is hosted by County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS.

Stuart Errington, chief fire officer said: “We bring schoolchildren from across the county here so they can learn about what they can do to keep themselves safe in a whole series of situations. It’s aimed at being a fun day but hopefully we will be getting some safety messages through to the children who will remember them for the rest of their lives.”

Over the next five weeks it will be delivered to all year six primary school pupils throughout the County Durham and Darlington area.
