CHESTER-LE-STREET District Council planning chiefs are celebrating outperforming other local authorities in the North-East in deciding and processing minor and other planning applications for the second year running.
The council received and processed almost 500 planning applications in the 2006-7 financial year, with seven out of eight determined in less that 13 weeks and 72 out of 79 in less that eight weeks.
Acting planning services manager Stephen Reed said: "The team has worked extremely hard during the past year to achieve this excellent result. Our customers are also highly satisfied with the team's performance, and we will continue on this road of excellence."
Planning committee chairman Councillor Keith Davidson said: "I am delighted that our planning service continues to provide a fast and efficient service to businesses and residents during a very challenging time.
"This result highlights the team's dedication, hard work and professionalism."
