A SPORTS club in Sedgefield has submitted an application to almost double its indoor space.

Sedgefield Cricket Club, on Station Road, is seeking permission to refurbish and extend its building.

The development would include internal alterations, see the added provision of new changing facilities, which would be accessible and for females, as well as further vehicle storage space.

The club’s indoor space currently covers 333 square metres and the development would add an additional 290 square metres.

A planning document by the applicant states: “The site will have a dual function which will be used for both sporting and social entertainment. The additional changing facilities will be used by both the cricketing and rugby teams and other ad hoc requests from other sports clubs.

“The social provision will be accessed by both members and non-members of the community to enjoy the watching of sport and social events. Access to the club and facilities will be available 52 weeks of the year for sporting access with the social club operating Wednesday through to Sunday 6pm until 11pm with flexibility to increase depending on event bookings.”

Existing staff should not be affected and the extension could provide more employment opportunities.
