A LEGENDARY rugby player lent his support a Teesdale rugby club as it held a fundraising sportsman's dinner earlier this month.

Barnard Castle Rugby Club was backed by former All Blacks Rugby player, Zinzan Brooke, as they held the special event at Barnard Castle School, on October 20.

Brooke made 100 appearances for the All Blacks and kicked the infamous drop goal against England in the 1995 World Cup before retiring from international rugby in 1997.

The host for the night was radio presenter, John Myers and Brooke gave a speech before guests got the opportunity to quiz the 52-year-old about his career.

Brooke’s speech was also followed by impressionist and comedian Kevin Connelly.

More than 200 people attended the dinner to raise vital funds for the club’s future.
