A northern racing legend is honoured at Redcar on Monday when seven two-year-olds line up for a race remembering stayers’ triple crown hero Double Trigger.

And there is every chance that Double Trigger’s trainer, Mark Johnston, will train the winner of the European Breeders’ Fund EBF Double Trigger Novice Stakes over 1m 1f at 1.05pm.

The Middleham Maestro trained Double Trigger to win 12 group races after the white-faced chestnut made a spectacular 10-length winning debut at Redcar in 1993 at unbelievable odds of 14-1.

And Johnston looks to hold the ace in the pack with Sea The Stars’ filly, Sea Youmzain, a solid second to James Fanshawe’s Bombyx when apparently unfancied on her debut at Leicester.

Johnston has also entered debutant Lucky Deal in the race but Sea Youmzain’s experience is expected to make the difference with experienced Joe Fanning in the saddle.

Redcar stages yet another eight-race card, which now gets underway at midday, with Bryan Smart’s Wrenthorpe fancied to follow-up a good second to William Haggas’ Nicklaus at Redcar’s last meeting. Wrenthorpe was only headed in the final strides that day and can go one better under Graham Lee.

The danger may come from Rux Ruux, trained in Berkshire by Andrew Balding and ridden by Oisin Murphy. The Dark Angel filly is making her debut so it will be well worth watching the market for signs of confidence.

David Evans’ Welsh raider Give Em A Clump stayed on well to beat stable-mate Kheleyf’s Girl at Ffos Las last time despite running keenly. He is taken to make the long trip pay off in in the 12.30pm at the expense of Tim Easterby’s consistent Excellent Times.

Miningrocks made all to gamely win a seller at Redcar on October 7 and, now he’s back at that grade, Declan Carroll’s gelding is taken to return to winning ways in the 1.40pm. On a line through Richard Hannon’s Rita’s Man, he should have the beating of Brian Ellison’s Traveltalk.

Tim Easterby’s Sheriff Garrett was a decent second to David O’Meara’s Ingleby Hollow at Redcar’s last meeting and appears ready to go one better. That victory may well come in the Market Cross Jeweller’s Handicap at 2.15pm.

Arnason, trained at Newmarket by Ed Dunlop, was second on the all-weather at Newcastle last time out and Jimmy Quinn takes the ride at 2.50pm. However, Richard Fahey’s Pudding Chare was only a head behind on his seasonable debut and is taken to turn the tables.

David O’Meara’s horses have been flying at Redcar lately and his Rapid Ranger is the selection in the penultimate race at 3.25pm The gelding was lucky not to fall when clipping the heels of another runner at Wolverhampton last time but had won at Leicester the time before and can return to winning ways.

The eight-race card comes to a conclusion at 4pm and Bold Spirit, a staying on second at Leicester last time, is taken to land the spoils for Malton trainer Declan Carroll and three-pound claimer Ger O’Neill.
