CARE HOME residents and staff are blooming with pride after gaining recognition for their garden display.

Rose Lodge Care Home, in Newton Aycliffe, was handed a Community Enhancement Award by Great Aycliffe Town Council, which gives out certificates of merit for front gardens, floral displays and streets that brighten the area’s visual appearance. Rose Lodge also received a trophy, £50 of gift vouchers and box of biscuits for its garden featuring a variety of bedding flowers, potted plants, eco-friendly handmade decorations and “flowerpot people” centrepieces.

Nicola Wheatley, care manager, said: “We were all so proud of how our grounds look and to have the hard work of the staff, residents and family members who volunteered their time formally recognised is wonderful.

Rose Lodge was also recently named as the runner up in a national horticultural competition run by care providers The Maria Mallaband Care Group and Countrywide Care Homes.
