VOLUNTEERS at a popular visitor attraction came together to prepare its cornfield flower meadow for next Spring.

Helpers from the North York Moors National Park Authority and Helmsley Walled Garden helped prepare the large area of border that will be awash with colour by early next summer.

Of the 19 volunteers, nine are usually found carrying out practical conservation tasks on the North Yorks Moors.

This is the first time the National Park Authority and Helmsley Walled Garden have worked together.

Tricia Harris, marketing manager of Helmsley Walled Garden, said: “It is a special place, providing visitors to Helmsley with stunning sights and beautiful smells, all with Helmsley Castle as a splendid backdrop.

“Inevitably though, maintaining such a large garden requires a great deal of work, and that’s why we’re so grateful to the volunteers of the National Park Authority for mucking in and helping us prepare for next spring.”

Volunteering opportunities can be found on their websites.
