WORKS to turn one of "Voice of the Boro" Ali Brownlee’s most famous commentaries into a piece of public poetry are now well under way.

Fans heading to the Riverside Stadium for the clash between Middlesbrough and Cardiff City today will be greeted by the sight of the outline of much of the mural on Shepherdson Way.

Teesside-based signwriter Phil Anderson has been carrying out the painstaking work in all weathers.

When complete, Mr Brownlee’s commentary from the final whistle of the 2006 UEFA Cup semi-final between Boro and Steaua Bucharest will stand at 40 metres long and two-and-a-half metres high.

Fans will currently see white paint on the wall, however the finished version will contain colour.

The tribute to Mr Brownlee and his immortal commentary is a joint project between Middlesbrough Council and Middlesbrough FC.
