AN INDIAN takeaway chef is set for his next appearance on television after being filmed cooking up a favourite dish.

Syed Marjan Haque, who owns Masala Tandoori, in Cobblers Hall, Newton Aycliffe, has already starred in Channel i's reality cooking show The Chef and will feature in his own episode to be broadcast in January.

The 40-year-old, of Darlington, prepared one of his dishes, yet to be revealed, at a recording for the Bangladeshi channel show in Newcastle.

It comes following his run on the show's competition last year which saw him named top five out of 30 chefs at a swanky ceremony in March.

Mr Haque said: "My hobby and business is cooking and I'm proud of what I have achieved.

"I'm proud of Bangladeshi tradition and want to show more people our food."

Following his success on The Chef contest, where he cooked his way through a gruelling ten rounds, Mr Haque was invited to take part in the Asian Chef category of the North East Culinary and Trade Association Hospitality Salon in April.

After preparing a starter of tuna pakora and main of chicken Hariali in front of 100 spectators, the chef was named runner up.
